Barton on Sea
July’s “Bubbles on the Beach” box has had us in a hazy, summer daze. And if you’re looking for an elegant place to sip sparkling wine as you gaze out over the sea on these sunny days, it has to be Pebble Beach, located in beautiful Barton on Sea. Renowned for its elegant terrace and stunning views, this Bubble Bar also boasts a wonderful sparkling wine list.
Established in 2002 by hospitality veteran Mike Caddy, Pebble Beach is a perfect combination of relaxed, California-style cool and the best of the British seaside.
As he says, “I wanted to create a restaurant that had something for everyone, in a spectacular environment.”
When it comes to the view from Pebble Beach’s elegant terrace, spectacular is an understatement. Perched high atop a cliff, a seat on the sun terrace at Pebble Beach will reward you with panoramic views of the ocean from the Solent towards the needles on the Isle of Wight.
Heidi Groves-Raines of Pebble Beach says, “When you walk through our doors you’ll discover relaxed, sophisticated coastal dining with stunning views of both the Hampshire and Dorset coastlines, to the Isle of Wight and Sandbanks. It’s hard to find anywhere else on the south coast with a stunning sun terrace and sea views that can match those at Pebble Beach.”
But you don’t go to Pebble Beach just for the views. With a long, well-curated wine list and a delicious fusion of French and English cuisine on the menu – not to mention access to amazingly fresh seafood – this lovely bar and restaurant is a wonderful place to end up after a full day of enjoying the beautiful south coast.
The philosophy of head chef Martin Pester is simple: use locally-landed fish and seafood alongside seasonal local ingredients. From seared scallops and seafood paella to fillets of red mullet with pea and lemon, Pebble Beach’s menu is a gourmand’s dream – and when these summery flavours are served on a cliff with beautiful views of the sea, they become the makings of perfect evening by the beach.
With nine wonderful bottles of sparkling wine to choose from – all hand-selected through research trips and in-depth discussions with local wine merchants – you’re sure to find a bottle or glass that suits your taste and budget.
“It’s hard to pick a personal favourite off the list,” Heidi laughs. “Whilst I would never turn down a glass of Dom Perignon Brut, I would also choose the Duval-Leroy Brut for a special occasion or a glass of rosé for a relaxed lunch on our terrace with friends and family.”
While you can’t replicate Pebble Beach’s beautiful views at home, their signature Champagne cocktail is sure to lift your spirits!
